Newly synthesized secretory proteins and a variety of resident proteins of the pathway enter the rough endoplasmic reticulum. Subsequently, the proteins may be sorted selectively to different membrane-delimited organelles including the Golgi apparatus, endosomes, lysosomes and secretory vesicles.
